You can copy an existing Hub to create a new one with the same structure and content. This is useful when you want to reuse a Hub layout without building it from scratch — for example, to create a similar knowledge base for a different team or project.
Whether you can copy a Hub depends on the copy permission set by the Hub co-owner and your organization's admin. If the copy option is not available, contact your Hub co-owner or admin.
What gets copied
When you copy a Hub, the following elements are included:
- Hub name and description
- Pages and page hierarchy
- Logo and background image
- Text blocks (paragraphs, section headers, callouts)
- Embeds (link previews)
- Dividers
The following elements are not included in the copy:
- Collaborators
- Hub settings (copy permissions, collaboration restrictions, shared link settings)
Files and folders are optional. When you initiate the copy, you can choose whether to include them. Only files and folders where you have Editor, Owner, or Co-owner access are copied. If your admin has enabled the Restrict invites setting for your enterprise, only content owners and co-owners can copy files with the Hub.
File and folder blocks are always retained in the copied Hub structure, even when files are not copied. Blocks for files or folders that were not copied appear empty.
Copying a Hub
To copy a Hub:
- Open the Hub you want to copy.
- Click the ellipsis (...) > Make a Copy. The Copy "[Hub name]" Hub dialog opens.
- In the Name Hub field, enter a name for the new Hub.
- To include files and folders in the copy, select the Include files and folders checkbox.
- Select Copy Hub.
After the copy completes, you are automatically redirected to the new Hub.
Copying a Hub from another enterprise
If a Hub co-owner has enabled copying for external users, you can copy a Hub that belongs to a different organization. The copy is created in your own Box tenant and contains the same structure, pages, logo, background image, text blocks, and embeds as the original Hub.
Files and folders cannot be copied across enterprises. The Include files and folders checkbox is not available when copying a Hub from another organization. File and folder blocks are still retained in the copied Hub structure but appear empty.
Managing who can copy your Hub
As a Hub co-owner, you can control whether other users are allowed to copy your Hub.
To configure copy permissions:
- Open the Hub.
- Click the ellipsis (...) > View Settings.
- Under Who can copy this hub, select one of the following options:
- No one: Nobody can copy this Hub.
- Only users within [your enterprise]: Only users in your enterprise can copy this Hub.
- Anyone: All users with access to the Hub can copy it.
Your organization’s admin can set organization-wide defaults for Hubs copy permissions and lock the setting to prevent co-owners from changing it. If the copy setting is greyed out, contact your admin.
