Box will soon introduce updates to document review within preview and Box Notes to make feedback easier to find, manage, and act on.
What is changing
- Comments and annotations appear together in commenting pane: Comments and annotations will now appear together in a single comment pane, giving users one place to review feedback. Going forward, Box Notes will no longer distinguish between comments made on the overall note and annotations made on specific content within the note. Both will be treated as comments and surfaced in the comment pane for a more consistent review experience. For preview, both type of comments (to the full file and the part of a file) will also appear under Activity pane.
- Threaded replies and @mentions: Users will be able to reply to any type of comments within threaded conversations and use @mentions to bring the right collaborators into the discussion
- Resolved comment threads: Users will be able to mark comment threads as resolved. Resolved threads will move into a Resolved filter and can be reopened later if additional follow-up is needed.
- Comment deletion controls: The original author of the comment will be able to delete their own comments. Please note that if the original author deletes a root comment, the entire associated comment thread will also be deleted.
- Adjustable width of commenting pane: For people who rely heavily on comments, we’ve introduced the ability to expand the comments and activity pane. Simply drag the divider to the left to adjust how the workspace is split on the page.
Limitation for shared link viewers
In Notes, viewers that are viewing a Box Note through a shared link will still only be able to leave comments on the full document, and will not be able to leave comments on specific parts of the document. They will, however, be able to view all comments in the comment pane and reply to any comment threads.
In preview, users with Uploader permissions will not be able to leave comments and annotations. Users with Preview Uploader and Previewer permissions will continue to be limited to drawing annotations only (support article)
