As enterprises expand agentic workflows into higher-stakes business processes, they need stronger controls to keep automation safe, compliant, and production-ready. Soon, Box is introducing advanced guardrails for Box Automate, additional granular protections designed to help organizations confidently automate sensitive agentic workflows while reducing the risk of harmful or irreversible actions.
Advanced guardrails bring runtime safety controls directly into agentic workflows. Instead of relying only on settings set outside the flow, teams can now apply guardrails at the moment an action is about to happen. This helps prevent risky or irreversible actions before they happen, especially when AI agents are involved in decisions that affect content, access, or external communication.
When this release is generally available, workflow builders can configure advanced guardrails to be scoped by content classification, specific folders, or list of users who are allowed or blocked. The following Automate outcomes will support guardrail configuration:
- Add or remove a collaborator on a file
- Add or remove a collaborator on a folder
- Send a notification
- Delete a file
- Delete a folder
When a guardrail blocks an action, workflow tracking surfaces a clear, specific error message so teams know exactly what happened and why.
