There are a couple reasons this could be happening:

    1. The person who created the link did not set the correct access level on the link. If you are not already a collaborator in the folder the link points to (or the file it points to) the person who set up the link would have to be set to "people in the company" (if that person is also at GE) or "people with the link" if they are not part of GE.
    2. The person who created the link has since removed the link.

The first is the most common issue. Enterprise Box administrators usually set the default sharing level to "people in the folder", compelling users to make a conscious decision to raise its level to a broader group of users.

So I recommend contacting the person who created the link to ask them to check its access level.

    HTH,

    Bob

Box keeps trying to save a shared file.  However the file has been deleted.  I have deleted the shortcut from my desktop, but it tries  to upload to box every boot up.  It ends up saving a copy to my desktop everytime I boot the computer.  How do I stop this from happening?

This clearly sounds like an issue for Box Support. This forum is for fellow users and admins. We don't have the tools to help with this.

    Best of luck,

    Bob

    Hi!

Is it possible to change this "This shared file or folder link has been removed or is unavailable to you." into "Please contact folder owner ***email address removed for privacy*** for access"

Would be a much greater help then the present one.

    Hi ,

Thanks for your post but unfortunately no, the error message is not customizable. This is good feedback for our webapp team to make the error message clearer on what the next steps are, which I'll share with our internal team.

However, if you'd like to provide direct feedback you can always submit a case to Box support.

Thanks for your help and time in the Community!

    Hi Bob,

What do you need to do in case you don't know who the sharing person is?

    Thanks, Loes

    Hi,

one of my colleagues received the message you highlight in this forum "this shared file or folder link has been removed or is unavailable to you." Per your detailed instructions, I created the shared link and set up my colleague as an editor (really just to access the files in the folder). Why is he is getting this message? And as a creator of the link, how do i prevent him from getting the message in the future so he can have uninterrupted access? Thanks Jim

    Hi ,

Welcome to the Box Community and thanks for your first post in the forum!

Have you checked out this community article on Creating Shared Links that discusses on the types Shared Link Access you can grant the users you'll be sharing the link to?

This may be relevant to your problem with the next steps!

If this did not help, do you mind providing more information or even share a screenshot? This will help out other members of the community to answer your question. Thank you!

    Hi there box people.

I am in communication with the creator of the shared group.she sent me a link last night to access the files but, no luck.

I am now in France while the rest of the participants are in California. Could this be contributing to why I can't access the files in our shared group?
