is there a way to restrict access to other folder in a directory

I created a new folder in an existing folder. The new folder inherited the permissions from the older folder but id like to restrict access to only the new folder I created and not the folder it sits within. How can i do this? I do not want people browsing other folders up or down the line, just the folder level i created.
