On iOS and Android, the Box app gives you two options to launch the app directly into continuous capture mode so you can immediately use the Box app's camera to snap photos, record video, scan documents, or record audio when you're on the go.
To use continuous capture, either:
- add a convenient Capture widget to your device's home screen that launches you directly into the Box app's camera, or
- enable a setting in the Box app that automatically launches you into the Box app's camera every time you open the app.
Continuous capture in the Box app enables you to:
- quickly and easily launch into the Box app's camera on your iOS or Android device to immediately snap photos, record video, scan documents, or record audio to upload to Box, and
- have a designated upload folder where all your photos, videos, scanned documents, and audio recordings are stored when uploaded from continuous capture.
Option 1: Setting up the continuous capture widget
Use this setting if you want to add a Capture widget to your device's home screen.
On iOS
To add the continuous capture widget to your device's home screen on iOS:
- Press and hold an empty area on your device's home screen until a "+" button appears in the top-left of your device's screen.
- Tap the + button.
- In the search bar, search for "Box", then select Box from the search results. The Box search displays the Box Capture widget.
- Tap Add Widget.
- To launch continuous capture mode, tap the Capture widget.
On Android
To add the continuous capture widget to your device's home screen on Android:
- Press and hold the Box app icon, or press and hold an empty area on your device's home screen until the device menu appears.
- In the menu, select Widgets.
- Search for the "Box" section.
- In the list of Box widgets, press and hold the Box Capture widget, and then drag it to an empty area on your device's home screen.
- To launch continuous capture mode, tap the Capture widget.
Note: If your Android device uses the MIUI operating system, you may not be able to add the Box Capture widget to your device. We will support continuous capture for MIUI devices in the future.
Option 2: Enabling the Box app to always launch into continuous capture
Use this setting if you do not want to add a Capture widget to your device's home screen.
To enable the Box app to always launch into continuous capture:
- In the Box iOS or Android app, open the Settings screen.
- In the Continuous Capture section, tap the Open in continuous capture toggle button.
The next time you open the Box app, it launches directly into continuous capture. Every time you open the Box app, Box takes you directly into continuous capture regardless of where you last left off in the app.
Selecting the upload location
When you upload content from continuous capture, by default Box saves the content to a Box folder named "Capture Uploads".
If you want to save your continuous capture content in a different folder, launch Capture mode and then select the folder you want to use.
To change the designated upload folder:
- Launches into continuous capture.
- At the top of the screen, tap the folder to change the designated upload folder.
Configuring continuous capture settings
Continuous capture settings enable you to:
- select whether to review each photo or automatically upload it to Box,
- select photo quality,
- select video quality,
- select whether to store the geographic location of your photos.
To configure your continuous capture settings:
- Open the continuous capture settings screen. You can do this in one of two ways:
- navigate to the Box app’s Settings screen, and under Options tap Continuous Capture, or
- when in continuous capture mode, tap the gear icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
-
In the settings screen, tap to select values for the following:

To view the location of the photo:
- Download the photo to your desktop.
- Open the photo with a standard photo viewer. The location data appears in the photo’s Properties section.
