Note: Box Sync is not supported on Apple Silicon devices. Users on these devices need to switch to Box Drive.
Overview:
You may notice that you have Box Sync icons in your Box account even though you do not have Box Sync installed or you just recently uninstalled Box Sync.
It is possible to mark a folder for Sync in your Box account even though you do not have Box Sync installed. This is designed to allow users to choose content to Sync prior to installing Box Sync and is completely normal to see these icons without using Box Sync. If you are not currently using Box Sync, there will be no impact.
Problem:
You see Box Sync icons on folders or files in your Box account despite not having Box Sync installed or after recently uninstalling it. This may cause confusion about whether files are being synced locally.
Process for Resolution:
- Confirm whether Box Sync is installed on your machine.
- If Box Sync is not installed and you do not intend to use it, unsync the marked folders.
- If you plan to use Box Sync, install or reinstall Box Sync and sign in to begin syncing the marked folders.
Outcome:
You will no longer be confused by the presence of Box Sync icons. If you unsynced the folders (and Box Sync is not installed), the icons will no longer indicate active local syncing. If you reinstall Box Sync, marked folders will begin syncing as expected.
Alternatives:
If unsyncing or reinstalling does not resolve your concern, contact support, please manually collect and submit Box Sync Logs and open a support ticket at support.box.com for further assistance.
