Box enables you to allow your account holders to add metadata instances to a folder, and automatically cascade them to the folder's contents. Using cascading metadata, your account holders can quickly add metadata to multiple files and sub-folders at one time.
Enabling cascading metadata also allows your account holders to resolve metadata instance conflicts by either retaining or overwriting current attribute values.
To enable cascading folder-level metadata for your enterprise:
- In the Admin Console's left sidebar, click Enterprise Settings.
- In the top of the window, click Content & Sharing.
- In the Folder Level Metadata & Cascade section, click Configure.
- Select the option you desire. If enabling based on a whitelist or blacklist, under Users type the names or email addresses of the appropriate users.
- Click Save.
