From trademark issues to patent infringement, legal risk is a serious concern for every company. Legal holds may be issued as a result of current or anticipated litigation, audit, or government investigation. Box Governance’s Legal Hold feature gives Admins the ability to identify, preserve, and collect content that is stored in Box and ensures that content relevant to litigation can be found based on a user and held indefinitely in Box.
We are enhancing our legal holds capabilities to streamline and simplify discovery processes and will soon be releasing Activity-Based Legal Holds. This enhancement gives Admins greater flexibility when placing legal holds by allowing them to define preservation scope based on Interactions, Ownership, and/or Access. When adding custodians to a legal hold in Box, Admins will soon be able to choose one or more of the following preservation types:
-
Interactions – Preserves file versions that a custodian has opened, previewed, edited, downloaded, or moved to trash.
-
Ownership – Preserves content the custodian owns — including current, future, and files moved to Box Archive.
-
Access – The original preservation model, preserves all files the custodian has access to at the time the hold is placed, including files they interact with, and content they own.
