Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is now available for external collaborators using the iOS Box mobile app. MFA represents a critical component of any organization’s content security strategy, and by extending it to mobile external collaborators we are further protecting customers against compromised accounts leading to data theft.
Bring-your-own-device policies have delivered significant benefits for employee experience and cost management to organizations, but have also introduced challenges around endpoint security and data compliance. Until now, when administrators enabled the "Require 2-step verification for external collaborators" setting, external users could only authenticate through the desktop Web App, leaving a gap in mobile security coverage. Going forward, external collaborators can now complete MFA verification when accessing shared files from Enterprise IDs (EIDs) directly on their iOS mobile devices.
This update will provide our customers:
- Enhanced Security: Enforce consistent MFA requirements across all devices and access points
- Greater Flexibility: External collaborators can now securely access shared content from their mobile devices
- Simplified Compliance: Maintain data compliance standards regardless of how users access your content
Support for Android devices will be released early 2026. To learn more about enabling and configuring Multi-Factor Authentication at Box, look here.
