As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure and trusted platform, we are rolling out new protections aimed at hardening free users accounts against compromise, both protecting the users and preventing their accounts from being leveraged in larger scale attacks.
Rolling out over the coming weeks, we are releasing two new security features for free Box accounts.
- Exposed Password Detection: Box will begin notifying free users within the application if they are re-using a password from another site that has been exposed in a security incident. This helps protect against accounts that re-use previously compromised login credentials, that could put their accounts at risk.
- Unrecognized Device Activation: Free users will begin receiving additional identity verification checks when logging into their accounts from unrecognized devices. They will be prompted to retrieve a one-time passcode from the primary email on their account and enter it to complete the login process.
