Box Sync - Create Portable Dated Backup
I am currently using 8.3 GB of 10.0 available.
I keep my files synced at my home on my NAS Network Storage and also at work on my Desktop PC.
At home, I have the fastest network connection currently available, which is DSL at 768 kbps download. As long as there are only a few files needing to be synced, this speed is fine.
I recently had to reformat my PC at home. All of my files are mostly up to date except for 10 or so that have been modified since.
When I reformat the hard drive on my PC, I can reinstall Box Sync, and re-select the same folder, but Box Sync will install a copy of my files into a new folder called Box Sync (2). During the next week or so, my home network will be useless as Box Sync works to synchronize all of my online content with the fresh folder that it has created.
Is there any way to tell Box Sync to use an existing folder?
I use version control software at work. It is able to use a file's modified date as well as its contents to determine what needs updating.
I would like to see a way in Box Sync to create an archived snapshot of a folder. That would allow me to transfer that folder to another PC or another folder, and then reestablish a Box Sync connection with this existing folder based on the archived snapshot data. Now, instead of recreating everything from scratch, I would only need to update changes that were made SINCE the archived snapshot data.
I am pretty sure that does not exist now. If it does, someone please tell me how to use it.
If it does not exist now, could we add that to a very good list of features for upcoming Box Sync tools?
Imagine when I one day upgrade to the 50 GB plan. It would take me a week or more to get all of my data synchronized across the cloud, where all I would need to do is create something like BoxSync.zip to a thumb drive, extract to my new location, and have Box Sync connect to it in the Settings.
