We are excited to announce that we have released a Public Beta of Box Drive that is compatible with new Apple devices with M1 chips today Any Box user can access this without signing the Master Beta Agreement.  To find out more information, including the installation and download instructions, please visit our community page.

We know that it's been extremely challenging and frustrating for many of you that we didn't have a compatible version of Box Drive on M1 devices previously.  We are truly sorry for all the inconvenience this has caused and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we've worked hard to get this general access for users.

Please note that this Public Beta is based on Box Drive's existing architecture, which uses kernel extensions.  As such, it requires users to enable 'reduced security mode' and requires additional installation steps in order to run Box Drive on M1 devices.  Organizations that have MDM configured on their devices can follow these configuration steps to the ease installation steps for their users.  Later this year, we are planning to add support for a new version of Box Drive that will be built using Apple's File Provider Extension (FPE) APIs.  This new architecture provides a modern implementation that exists in user space with no kernel extensions, so users will not have to enable 'reduced security mode'.  It will also significantly streamline the install experience for Box Drive on M1 devices.

Thank you again for all your patience.  We truly appreciate it.

    Best,

Never mind the M1… Box Drive is not working properly on Big Sur.

It's kind of embarrassing. Big Sur beta has been out for awhile.

Also interested. Our semester starts soon, and having Box Drive on M1s would be real helpful.

Still not working 1-13-2021. its been months now since M1 is released and shipping to public and Box is an enterprise storage solution - which doesn't work on Apple's M1 Mac.. Hmmm ! - Pleas get onboard Box support team - we need this !

It's been 2 months and still nothing, I don't know if the engineering team is really working on it. It's quite a shame

It is very irritating that BOX still not are giving any ETA for the M1 support.

Any updates on the timing of a resolution? The minimum that box should do is to not charge any customers - individuals or business and enterprise accounts - until this very foundational functionality is resolved.

Just got my new MBAIr and can't install this enterprise app, disappointing

Box Sync seems to work and it's a reasonable facsimile to the features of Box Drive, allowing files to be synchronized locally instead of having to work from the browser, until Box can fix the issue.

Do you have any idea when you release a fix for Apple M1 processors? It's really annoying.

Hi, can you please get this fixed? Google drive, dropbox ... all fine on my new mac mini. Only Box Sync not working.

I'm with Jasper and the rest of the gang here... Need Box Drive to work on an M1 Mac. Is there a timeframe for resolution?

yes, this needs to get resolved. Dropbox, GDrive, even Onedrive are working on M1 Macs.

Same. This is becoming pretty annoying. We are using BOX as it is supposedly the best out there. Since 12 years! But the speed at which it operates makes me question whether this is the right horse

A better timeline on completion of the M1 version would be appreciated. I purchased a Mac with Apple silicon and Box is the ONLY thing not working. This will cost me hundreds of dollars because I need to keep my old Mac (not trade it in) to be compatible with a university's Box Drive.

Do we have a timeframe yet? This is becoming terribly frustrating that is impacting my workflow output using Box via internet browser. There needs to be a resolution else I and for sure others will migrate elsewhere.

I really can not believe this.

I repeat: I really can not believe this.

Either it is a haughty disdain towards their customers, or they are not capable to solve the issue where most other software producers can.

Either way they owe us at least an explanation. Patience and understanding won't do anymore.

It is not at all my style be so blunt, but sometimes a little extra pressure can do miracles.

Why do we get ZERO feedback from box?
    Aren't your customers worth it?

Just found this on Box's support site... https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500004691081-M1-Support-for-Box-Drive-Public-Beta

Looks like we'll have a BETA version tomorrow!

Kind of strange that BOX wouldn't let this thread know...

Great to know the public beta is finally here!

However, we are curious of what security vulnerabilities users are exposing themselves to by opting in for "Reduced Security" mode.

    Hello BOX team,

I looked at the Beta page and the instructions. It looks like your beta is not native on the M1 as it requires Rosetta to run, is this correct?

Also, the kernel extensions and the lowering of the security settings are a no-go to me and I guess to many. How is it possible that Dropbox, OneDrive, and others could make their apps run seamlessly natively months ago?
