Starting with Chromium version 142, browsers like Chrome and Edge will ask users to allow or block local network access when a website connects to software on their device. Box relies on this mechanism to communicate with the Box Tools software on the same device to support Open in Desktop. If permission isn’t granted, this feature will stop working. To help, we’ve added in-app guidance that explains this new browser behavior and walks users through allowing access. Box only communicates with Box Tools on your own device—it does not access other devices on your local network.
