A critical Box Drive update is required for certain Windows users. This includes:
- Devices where your organization has enabled the new Box Drive for Windows experience using the EnableCloudFiles setting. Identify these devices by checking if the following registry key is enabled:
- Registry Path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Box\Box - Value Name:
EnableCloudFiles (DWORD) - Value Data: 1 = Opt in for the new version
- Registry Path:
- All Windows ARM devices, which use this new experience by default.
We recommend updating these devices to Box Drive for Windows v2.49.257 (or later) immediately.
Take one of the following actions to update these devices:
- Deploy via MDM: Download the Box Drive for Windows v2.49.257 installer here: link, and deploy it via your MDM solution for all users who are opted into the new Box Drive for Windows experience.
- Leverage auto-update on relaunch: Box Drive can auto-update on launch when an update is detected. To accelerate adoption, consider using MDM to force an app relaunch so the update is applied.
-
Optionally, ask users to update manually:
- When an update is available, Box Drive displays a system notification and adds a badge to the Box icon in the Windows system tray.
- To install the update, users should click the Box icon in the system tray to open the menu, then either click “Update Available” or click the gear icon and select “Update.”
