Box is releasing a new improvement to our Box Shield Malware Deep Scan, enabling customers to customize what alerts get generated in their environment. With the increased level of control, Box Shield customers will be able to precisely define their malware detection to minimize false positives without compromising content security.
Malware Deep Scan is Box Shield’s advanced, intelligent malware scanning solution, using machine learning to identify malicious traits within files to identify malware, rather than relying on reputation-based scanning that can miss newer or more sophisticated malware. But one challenge that some customers have faced is when their organization handles content that resembles malware (for example, spreadsheets containing macros), Malware Deep Scan will alert admins unnecessarily. To reduce these false positives, we are adding the capability for admins to identify specific file extensions that can be excluded from scanning (.xlsm, .eml, etc.). We are also giving additional granular filtering based on the severity level of detected potential threats.
