Box has ended support for the Box Capture app on September 15, 2022 and will end of life (EOL) the product at a subsequent date. We will give six months of notice before the EOL.
How did Box arrive at this decision?
Box’s intent has always been to offer a single productivity app for capturing, accessing, and sharing content. Recently, we announced that the Box Mobile app now includes Capture Mode--the ability to take photos, video, and audio recordings or scan documents using your mobile phone’s camera and add them directly to Box. The addition of capture functionality to Box Mobile, brought our app on par with our vision and made the Capture app obsolete.
We are committed to providing a feature-rich Box Mobile app experience for both iOS and Android users, and we will be focusing our development resources on powering that effort on our primary mobile app.
What does this mean for you?
While you can continue to use the Capture app until its EOL, the risks of using it in an unsupported state include:
- Lack of Box support to fix any bugs or related issues that arise
- Immediate deprecation of the Capture app should any critical security or critical bug-related issues arise
To avoid disruption, Box strongly advises upgrading your Capture app users to the Box Mobile app over the next two months.

What if my company uses the Capture app EMM?
If you do not already have the Box Mobile app for EMM, you should refer to the Box Configuration Guide external docs for Intune iOS, Intune Android, or AirWatch to set up and deploy the app to your organization. Once deployed, users can follow the same steps listed in the toolkit to toggle Capture Mode on.
