    Hi ,

Welcome to the community and thanks for your first post in the forum!

Thanks for the detailed question! Check out this article about password protecting your files when using a shared link! That is the current feature of password protecting that Box has.

An option to password protect individual folders would be very useful, especially as permissions trickle down from parent folders; some organizations will want to restrict access to sub-folders to only certain employees or individuals in the organization.

Agreed, I have an instance today where it would be nice to restrict a single folder with a password.  The password for a shared link is not adequate enough.  Instead I believe I will have to move this file out of the parent folder to ensure other people can't see it.  It contains highly confidential information, but I didn't want it living outside of the branch folder structure.  Oh Well I guess.

I am having this same issue today.  I want to keep my collaborators in the parent folder but I want a folder within this parent folder to be locked so only 2 collaborators can see it.  Want to do it this way so we don't have to create another separate folder with the same project name just for two collaborators.  Just seems duplicative and less organized having two folders for the same project.  It would be nice to be able to lock any folder within a "collaborator shared" folder so that only some of the collaborators can see it.

    Hi ,

Welcome to the Box Community and thanks for your first post in the forum!

Thanks so much for your suggestion!

Though we highly encourage our users to explore that ability to assign access level to their members and take advantage of the "waterfall permissions"--when inviting collaborators in a project, we have had lots of requests for this type of  "password protected folder" which sounds like a really interesting idea.

+1   Did BOx ever create this feature?

Nope. Just asked this morning. So now I have 20 employees who can potentially see my Social Security number because we also keep our W-9's saved on there. I guess they want us to have to open up a separate account (more $$$). I would get a DropBox before I do that. ?

It seems they do have this feature now. There is a "padlock" feature you can use:

I am interested in password protecting Box folders accessible via Box Drive on PCs and laptops.  The concern is to protect against a backdoor ransomware attack through a cloud drive (such as Box Drive) mounted on desktops.  Is there a way to secure Box folders access mounted as a cloud drive - or is there some other way devised to protect against a ransomware/malware insertion to cloud folders via windows drives?

Can we get some password-protected folders over here?

Hey, we still need this feature Box. Folks have been asking to password protect shared folders for 8 years now.
