How is the new integration different from the old Box for Office plug-ins?
Before 2019, Box plugins worked only for Windows OS. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Outlook mobile integrations worked only in narrow instances, notwithstanding the fact most people use mobile to consume rather than create information (that is, they use Outlook to read emails more than compose emails).
Effective February 2019, a new Box for Outlook integration supports the way people use both applications. People can easily create, read, and save emails, and they can use Box within Outlook across Windows, Macs, the Outlook Web app, iOS, and Android.
What versions of Outlook must I have to use the new Box for Outlook integration?
You must have Outlook 2013 or later.
Can admins deploy the integration for a select group of users?
Yes. Users must be assigned individually or as part of top-level groups. However, Box does not support nested groups.
Will users be prompted to save attachments to Box if they use the native attach flow in Outlook?
Although Box's existing plug-ins do have this feature, the new Outlook platform prevents it.
Can customers use the older Outlook and new outlook integrations on Windows PC?
Yes, but we strongly discourage it. Further, we cannot support it, and won't address any bugs that arise as a result.
How are file name conflicts handled?
If you move two files with the same name to the same folder (whether the default My Outlook Attachments folder or any other folder) we handle this in the same way as the Box Web app does -- we add number suffixes.
Where are attached files actually stored?
Attached files are stored in Box.
What clients does this integration support?
Go to the Microsoft Outlook add-in requirements site for the latest information.
Can I use my personal Outlook account to integrate with my enterprise Box account?
We support Outlook only for Office365 customers.
