Troubleshooting Box for iOS - Unable to Access Box Files in Microsoft Office Apps on iOS 11+

Overview of Problem

When trying to save files to Box for iOS or Box for EMM from Office applications or attempting to attach a file from Box to an Outlook message, you may receive the following error message. This issue occurs due to the Files application integration in iOS 11+, which does not support app-specific passwords. This affects users trying to access Box files from Office apps.

Process for Resolution

  1. Open the Box application on your iOS device.
  2. Navigate to the settings menu.
  3. Locate the passcode settings.
  4. Disable the passcode for the Box application.

 

Outcome

Disabling the passcode for the Box application will allow you to save files to Box from Office applications and attach files from Box to Outlook messages without encountering the error. See here for more limitations with the Files app integration.
