Troubleshooting

Overview of Problem

While attempting to log in to Box for iOS, you may encounter the error message: “Your admin has restricted the use of this application. Please contact your admin to authorize this device.” This issue occurs when the “Device Pinning” feature in the Admin Console restricts the number of devices a user can log in with, and the user exceeds the configured device limit.

Process for Resolution

Admin actions are required to check the device limit configured for each user with the "Device Pinning" feature and unassign a device.

  1. Log in to the Admin Console with admin permissions.
  2. Open Enterprise Settings and navigate to the Device Protection tab.
  3. In the Application Usage section, check the number of devices the user has logged in with.
    • If the number of devices has reached the limit, unassign any unnecessary devices.
  4. Have the user attempt to log in to Box for iOS again.

 

Outcome

You should now be able to log in to Box for iOS without encountering the error message.

  • Device model, OS version, and Box for iOS app version of the affected user
  • Email address used by the user when the issue occurred
  • A screenshot of the error
