We will be releasing a new version of Box Drive (v2.24) on Windows and Mac including feature enhancements and bug fixes.
-
Brand new architecture for Box Drive on macOS - Box Drive has been re-built on a completely brand new architecture on macOS with Apple File Provider Extensions (FPE). This new version of Box Drive provides more seamless and secure access for Box Drive on Intel and M1 devices and no longer requires use of kernel extensions. It will be supported on macOS 11.5+ and macOS 12 for Intel and M1 devices. It will also provide support for Mac Packages in Box Drive!
Please take note of our roll-out plans, as the FPE configuration will be rolled out over a phased release window over the course of the next month.
-
When Box Drive v2.24 is released soon, all macOS 12 users will automatically be configured to use Drive in FPE mode (since that will be the only supported configuration)
-
All other enterprise users will be able to continue using the kernel-based mode for a 1 month period after GA. After 1 month post GA, all enterprise users on macOS 11.5 and greater will automatically be configured to FPE mode (this will take effect when they restart Box Drive after the configuration has been enabled for them by Box)
-
All other non-paying users will get FPE mode configured by default at the GA of Drive v2.24
Box Drive with FPE will support the following operating systems and devices:
-
Operating systems supported - macOS Big Sur (11.5 and above), macOS Monterey (12 and above)
-
Devices supported - Apple M1 and Intel-based Mac devices
