Following the productivity updates released in December, we’re excited to bring another wave of highly-requested features to Box Notes. These enhancements are designed to make creating, organizing, and collaborating in Notes faster, cleaner, and more powerful than ever.
Word & character count
You can now view word and character counts for an entire document, or a selected portion of text. Open the “…” menu in the header to access it—perfect for writing, reviewing, and sharing with confidence.
“Title Only” link preview option
When pasting a link to a Note, you now have three flexible options: paste as URL, rich preview, or new — title only. The Title only option keeps your text clean and compact, blending seamlessly into paragraphs without disrupting formatting. You can switch between any preview style at any time.
Mermaid diagrams
Box Notes now supports Mermaid diagrams, enabling you to create flowcharts, sequence diagrams, and more—all directly in your notes.
To get started:
- Add a Mermaid Diagram from the “+” menu
- Or select Mermaid from the code block dropdown
You can write Mermaid code yourself or use AI (inline or from the side panel) to generate diagrams and charts for you.
Readers can expand and download diagrams, making them easy to explore and share.
Improvements to tables
Tables are a core part of Notes—and we’ve made them easier to use:
- Easy drag & drop for faster editing
- Cell, row, and column colors — colors are preserved when copying Notes into email and external color-coded tables pasted into Notes keep their formatting
- Redesigned menus with quick actions for every table scenario
- Sticky horizontal scroller for smooth navigation in large tables
- Smart justification inheritance where new rows and pasted content automatically match the alignment of the row above
- Column sorting (ascending & descending) — sorting is visible only to you and does not affect other collaborators.
