The first half of 2026 has seen a wave of new capabilities released for Box Apps. From the launch of the AI Home Experience in Box Apps, enabling users to save and revisit AI conversations, to the several new Blocks that add more options to visualize data in charts and list views. One notable release is the ability to Export Metadata from Views.
Here is a summary of all Box Apps releases and updates in 2026 through July:
Export Metadata from View [Announcement]: This capability gives users the ability to export their metadata views directly to a CSV file, making it easier than ever to work with Box metadata in external tools like Excel, reporting systems, and auditing workflows.
AI-powered search and filtering in Box Apps [Announcement]: We released the ability to leverage AI-powered search in Box Apps, enabling users to find content more efficiently across an entire app from any page using natural-language queries. With AI-powered search in Box Apps, users can automatically select the most relevant view, apply metadata and text filters, and surface relevant content in a dedicated view all while displaying the original query and the editable filters that are automatically applied based on the query.
Charts and graphs in Box Apps [Announcement]: Users can now set up vertical and horizontal bar charts in the Chart block in Box Apps, making data more accessible and visually engaging.
Item List Block [Announcement]: A new block type in Apps that lets users explore and update content within a selected metadata template directly on an App page. Key functionality includes inline file preview, item filtering via quick filters or sidebar filter panel, and bulk metadata editing.
Multi-level taxonomies | Advanced Quick filters for Taxonomies [Announcement]: Admins can define hierarchical taxonomies once and attach them to multiple metadata templates, simplifying categorization and improving consistency across enterprise content and workflows.
Multi-Page Apps [Announcement]: Users can create multiple pages within a single app and only expose specific pages within an App to Box users, helping teams manage related content and workflows more clearly and efficiently.
Other Releases:
- AI Home Experience for AI queries in Views: Users who use AI within Views will now see the saved session within AI Home. Now conversations can be saved and continued within AI Home.
- Start a Manual Workflow from a View: Users can now trigger Manual Start workflows from the Apps View, bringing the same behavior available on "Files" to Apps.
- Multi-Select Field Support for Charts: Users can use Multi-Select fields to visualize data in charts.

In-line Editing
- In-line editing of text/number/date fields: Users can edit text, number, and date fields in-line within Views.
- The "Enable for All" option for inline metadata editing allows bulk enabling of inline metadata editing across a view.

User Experience Updates
- Adjustable View pagination / file counts: Users can customize how many items are displayed per page.
- Text Wrapping, More Pills on a View: Text and pill wrapping and adjustments to table sizing in views makes it easier to read data.
- Multi-Page Apps. Page Limit Increase: The maximum page limit for multi-page apps was increased from 10 to 15 pages.
- Edit Mode in Views update: : The editor has been updated so that it's clear the user is editing the page.

Filters in Views
- Is Not option for number filters on a View: Users can filter out the numbers they don’t want to see in the results list.
- Taxonomy/Multiselect Filter Improvement: Improved UX for taxonomy/multiselect filters that make it easier to click the apply button when a filter dropdown is open, with new support for closing the dropdown via the Escape key or clicking outside the component.

Does not contain filter: Users can now use the “does not contain” filter for text fields in a View.
