Enterprise settings define how Box works in your organization, and the settings in the Mobile tab define settings for how mobile devices interact with Box. This topic contains the following sections:
User Permission for Box Mobile Application
These settings control content security for mobile (iOS and Android) devices.
- Files can be saved to device

Controls the ability to download files or save them for offline use on mobile devices. This allows you to maintain more control over content while still allowing users mobile access to Box. Requires Box for iOS 3.2+ and Box for Android 3.2+. The default value is enabled.
This setting must be enabled to configure the following settings:
- "Preview only" collaborators can save files for offline use
- Content can be opened in external applications
- Content can be printed
- Save to device only if encrypted (Android only)
- Files can be opened in applications that save back to Box (iOS only)
- Disable iOS files functionality on devices running iOS 12.0 or older (iOS EMM only)
- "Preview only" collaborators can save files for offline use
- Available and can be enabled only when Files can be saved to device is enabled. When enabled, Box users with "Preview only” permissions for a folder can save folder content for offline use. “Preview only” folder contents never leave the Box app container. The default value is disabled.
- Content can be opened in external applications
- Available and can be enabled only when Files can be saved to device is enabled. When enabled, users can open content from Box in other applications using the same operating system. The default value is disabled.
- Content can be printed
- Available and can be enabled only when Files can be saved to device is enabled. When enabled, users can print files from the Box app on thier devices. The default value is disabled.
- File contents can be copied and pasted
- When enabled, users can copy text from a file in the Box app to their device clipboard and paste it elsewhere. The default value is disabled.
- Automatic uploading from device
- Controls the appearance of an automatic uploading feature within the Box app settings. This setting is available only to customers with paid accounts. The default value is enabled.
- Contextual information included in push notifications
- When enabled, users receive contextual details, such as file names, with push notifications. The default value is enabled.
- Save to device only if encrypted (Android only)
- Available and can be enabled only when Files can be saved to device is enabled. When enabled, allows users to save files to their device from the Box app only if full-device description is enabled on the device. Requires a version of Android that supports full-device encryption. The default value is disabled.
- Files can be opened in applications that save back to Box (iOS only)
- Available and can be enabled only when Files can be saved to device is enabled. When enabled, allows the iOS file picker to open files from Box in external applications and save changes back to Box. The default value is disabled.
- Disable iOS files functionality on devices running iOS 12.0 or older (iOS EMM only)
- Available and can be enabled only when Files can be saved to device and Content can be opened in external applications are enabled. When enabled prevents users with iOS devices from accessing content via Box for Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) in conjunction with mobile device management (MDM) protections. This setting does not affect the non-EMM Box app. The default value is disabled.
Note
If you have allowed Files can be saved to device in earlier versions of mobile applications, you will continue to see this setting allowed in this version as well.
- Intune Mobile Application Management (Intune MAM)
- When enabled, enforces Microsoft's Intune Mobile Application Management service even if Box account holders are not enrolled in this service.
Passcode Settings for Box Mobile Application
This setting controls passcode security for the Box mobile app.
- Require passcode lock
- You can require Box account holders to set an application-specific passcode and set the threshold for inactivity. When people exceed the threshold, Box requires them to enter the passcode. Account holders with this requirement on their devices can use FaceID (on iOS) or BiometricPrompt (on Android) to bypass this passcode. Select from:
- Do not enforce (default)
- After 1 minute of inactivity
- After 2 minute of inactivity
- After 5 minute of inactivity
- After 15 minute of inactivity
- After 1 hour of inactivity
