When does the prompt appear?
This error dialog occurs when Box Drive run into issue updating its files in the data folder (C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Box\Box\data
) upon launch post the version upgrade. The common cause is anti-virus software blocking the writes into this directory.
How to resolve
The issue can be resolved by following the steps for manually resetting Box Drive.
As mentioned in the step 2 of this guide, it's recommended to check the following folderC:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Box\Box\unsyncedFiles
Before deleting anything from the next step, back up any files that are present in this folder.
In step 3, you may encounter issues deleting the Box folder located at:C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Box\Box
This could be due to restrictions similar to those preventing write access to the data folder by Box Drive. If you face difficulties deleting the Box folder, verify the permissions for that folder. Additionally, check if any security software is blocking write access to it.
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, try the followings:
- logout and log in again
- uninstall and reinstall Box Drive
